Key City – Electricity and Energy Minister KGOSITSHO Ramokgopa said the government would look for a special investment to develop a transmission infrastructure through an independent transmission program (ITP).
Speaking at a media briefing in Pretoria on Tuesday, Ramokgopa is aimed at building a new transmission line to support the updated energy projects of the initiative.
He said that the Eskom and the government’s participation in the private sector, the participation of the private sector, is necessary to modernize and expand the 14,000 km transmission network required by 40 billion R40 billion.
In particular, the participation of the sector, especially in the Cape provinces, especially the transmission of the doors and wind energy potential, was a ministerial determination to ensure the participation of the private sector.

“Our renewable energy assets are not fully exploited as a result of restrictions on the transmission. Eskom balance sheet and sovereign balance sheet are not enough to carry the required number of investments in this space.
“In terms of the Transmission Development Plan … We need to modernize and transfer about 14,000 km and we need R440 billion. The state is not in a situation to provide such support. Thus, we present an independent transmission program.”
The National Transmission Company of South Africa (NTCSA) will monitor the country’s energy policy, to ensure its efficiency and alignment.
The pilot program is expected to add at least 3222 million energy to the network, which touches more private investments, touching on structural electricity limits and increasing economic growth and attract more private investment.
