The province contains most public schools in the country, more than 6,000.
Hlomuka shows that the province’s budget split 86,905 school teachers, 919 offices in the office, there are a major cluster in 178 therapists engaged in the participation of major teachers and educators.
11,240 employees working in terms of the head office, regions and schemes, mainly in terms of public service act, are employed.
The award of all these personnel is equal to about 82% of the R62BN budget (R51BN) allocated to the department in the existing fiscal year.
This creates only 18% of the budget to finance other critical projects, services and infrastructure projects.
“R2.2bn (4%) is transferred to the schools leaving the department R4.3bn (7%) for transactions. The rest are contingent grants.
Hlomuka added that 52 schools in the province were affected by storms and floods since November 2024. He said that the province was temporarily intervened in many of the schools in the form of mobile classrooms or in the form of these schools.
“We have identified 55 mobile classrooms allocated to these schools, but there are other schools waiting for mobile classrooms. We are engaged in the financial process, we will engage in financial processes, we will deal with service providers to make these schools.”
Hlomuka raised concerns about the increase in crimes in and around the province. In some of the affected communities of the Department, the community said he had a number of icons to encourage society to protect the schools and infrastructure.
“This is a failed situation because we later affect teaching and learning our schools. We will say that there are no conditions in our schools tomorrow.”
