British № 1 Jack Draper ordered a place in Indian wells by winning 16-5 in Indian wells on Monday, 6-4 USA from Jenson Brooksby.
Joao Fonseca, unlike the opening-round collision against Joao Fonseca, who sealed victory by winning nine games, struggled to maintain a consistent performance against Brooksbiya.
Draper, 937, with the lowest ranking of the world, did the lowest ranked defeat, but he sounded visible by his opponent during the opening set. The British drove 1-4 and flicked the rocket in frustration.
“Jenson is an unusual player, he really complicates life,” he said. “He doesn’t make the rhythm easier. I went out of a slow start, I missed some of the most things early.
“But I am happy with the way I fought and competed. Today, despite being the best tennis, I am very pleased with the way I do my best to stay cool.”
Draper will either face the third seed, 2022 champion Taylor Fritz or 30th seeds Alejandro Tabilo in the 16th round.
